A space that is alive
Living spaces, our philosophy
The phrase “living space” is often overlooked and confined to its dictionary definition “a space where you live”, but at Nooke, it means more like “a space that is alive”. Homes and spaces are expressions of the self, a museum of our routines, rituals and unusual habits.
Living spaces grow and evolve as people do, and change through what they choose to surround themselves with. It is the small things that make a home: your favorite china from mom’s, a framed art by a friend, a slightly out-of-place coffee table book that makes you smile.
Designing with honesty
True beauty is in authenticity, and nothing is more authentic than nature itself. Taking a piece of it to put in a home is memorializing it, like taking a slice-of-life photograph. At Nooke, wood remains true to its form — we let wood deepen its color as it ages. Staining wood denigrates its grain — the expression of the life and seasons of its tree. Wood kept pure has its soul intact, and staying faithful to this philosophy entails a meticulous selection of raw material and top-tier craftsmanship.
A Nooke piece starts with a sketch of lines and silhouettes. Then a piece of furniture is born out of it. Form comes first, then the homeowner decides its function. What was first made to be a stool grew to become side tables, holding space for the owner’s everyday trinkets. Nooke is more art than design in this sense: expressive pieces integrated into day-to-day life.
