Homebody with Coco Quizon

We spent a lazy Saturday afternoon with Coco Quizon, Sunnies Studios Brand Manager and Jeopardy fanatic as she gave us a tour of her newly renovated ‘medyomalism’ home.

Her two bedroom home is a harmony of clean and simple shapes, different collections and a whole lot of pink.

Tell us about yourself

I’m Coco, 28 years old. I work as a Brand Manager at Sunnies Specs.

What are your hobbies/interests?

Nelson, my dog. I like to make coffee, I like buying books. I like Netflix and Jeopardy.

Take us through an ordinary Saturday at home

I wake up, make coffee but wouldn’t be satisfied with how I make the milk, so I make another coffee. I’d sit and watch Jeopardy and look online. I do my skincare, self-care. I water my plants. I don’t know how to properly water them so I have instructions in Dymo on the walls for each plant.

"Making coffee takes a lot out of my day because I’m super obsessed. I love making coffee, it’s like my only party trick."

What do you like the most about your space?

It's pink, which is my favorite color. I like that it’s not too "designed". It feels like I've collected a bunch of stuff over time, like lucky cats (Maneki-neko).

I like that my space is not really themed. I’d call my space ‘medyomalism’. It’s trying to be minimalist -- but not really. Me 5 years ago, this would have been super cluttered, with posters everywhere. I like how it’s a lot cleaner, and pink, and more neutral. Because pink is neutral. And there’s also a bunch of stuff I’ve collected over time. It feels very me.

We noticed that there are a lot of different brands incorporated in your home.

I’m super a brand hoe, I think it’s part of working in retail that you become a fan of a bunch of stuff. In terms of home stuff, I really like Vitra and Ikea. I like Neighborhood a lot. I used to work retail in streetwear so I still like a bunch of it which you see around my space. There's Carhartt, Supreme, Chinatown Market, retaW, and P.A.M. (Perks and Mini).

What are your favourite pieces at home?

I really like my pink chair, I got it from Ligne Roset. I saw it and it was super pink, and all my friends were ganging up on me to buy it. I bargained at the store and I got it. It’s my favourite chair. It’s a really good nap couch, it’s also Nelson’s favourite chair.

We noticed you have a lot of home scents as well. Any favorite scents?

My favourite scent is Bedwin and the Heartbreakers. It's a collab with retaW which took a while for me to find. It smells like coconuts, or maybe a refined version of a suntan oil. I have Aesop scents, and to be honest you can’t really tell [each scent] apart. But I think that’s their draw. You’ll always love everything because they all pretty much smell the same. I also have L:a Bruket soy candles. I like scents that are woody. So those are my top three.

How about favorite books?

On Booze by F Scott Fitzgerald. It’s about a guy who starts a love affair with alcohol and how he attributes everything in life to it. There’s a cool quote that goes, ‘First you take a drink, and your drink takes a drink and then your drink takes you’. It’s about consumption and a very F Scott Fitzgerald way of fucking your life up.

Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell. It’s about how he solves poverty in different areas in his life and compares it to those two cities.

Commissary Kitchen, by Prodigy from Mobb Deep. He was in jail and these are the recipes he made using jail food. It's a cookbook based on life in jail and what he tried to make out of it.

"As you can tell, I love pretty stuff. I have a bunch of normal things that shouldn’t be pretty, but are."

What advice would you give to someone who's renovating their space?

The number one thing they have to consider is how much time they’ll have to be spend away from their space. I was super attached to this place so I was trying to rush everything. You have to know how strict your apartment building is in terms of renovation and try to work around that schedule. This place was a nightmare, you're only allowed to work 10-2 and 2-4PM. So it was super duper slow. But it was worth it, I super loved how it turned out.
